LEAGUE LEGENDS HEAD POLICE NOMINEES
League legends Frank ‘Bumper’ Farrell, Johnny Raper and Paul Sironen head an impressive list of nominees for the Police Team of the Century.
As the game of rugby league celebrates its centenary, Wests Tigers and the New South Wales Police are playing their part in selecting a team of all time greats who played first grade rugby league whilst members of the Police Force. A coach, manager and referee will also be named.
The Police Team of the Century will be named at half-time of the Wests Tigers v Parramatta Eels NRL Match at ANZ Stadium on Sunday, June 15.
A special ticket offer is available for police families – one adult and two children receive free entry with a police officer upon presentation of their badge. Entry is through Gate E.
Sironen is just one of the many former police officers who will be in attendance for the announcement of the Police Team of the Century.
The former Balmain, NSW and Australian player worked as a police officer in the Balmain district from 1985 to 1991 whilst playing for the Tigers.
“It is a great honour to be considered for the Police Team of the Century as there are some fine rugby league players amongst the list of nominees,’’ Sironen said.
“The Police do a wonderful job in protecting society and I applaud Wests Tigers for once again coming up with another great concept.’’
As part of the match day entertainment, the NSW Police Force will also hold demonstrations involving the police helicopter, police dogs and horses that will capture the crowd’s attention.
Gates open at 12.45pm with the Toyota Cup kicking off at the same time.
First grade starts at 3pm.
